Hellripper literally came ripping out of nowhere with their debut album this year and instantly put all the retro black/thrash/speed bands to shame in one fell swoop. Mostly due to the fact that the music is so unrelentingly captivating and the perfect mixture of the nastiness of blackmetal, the rawness of speed metal, and the hooks of thrash that it’s fucking impossible to not get caught up in the mix with uncontrollable headbanging, but also because this is a fucking one mad band! Holy shit, I’ve heard full bands try and play this music and fail but one dude just fucking nailed it so thoroughly that I’d be embarrassed if I was in a contemporary black/thrash band.

Well before his debut Coagulating Darkness came out this year, last year he released a compilation of all his EPs and splits and while the make up of this comp is from four different sources it never sounds disjointed or compiled. Such is the strength of Hellripper’s focus and music prowess that a compilation album feels entirely like a full-length. Full-length may be a stretch as this clocks in at barely over 25 minutes, but that’s exactly how you want music of this sort to go. Fucking fast and nasty and to the fucking point without any jerking around.

And Hellripper fucking delivers.
