Man, oh man, do I love those early days of death metal. Way before the sound was solidified and the later fractured into 18 million sub, sub, sub, sub genres, it was so off the fucking rails and raw. Death Strike were one of those earlier American contributors.

Hailing from Chicago, Death Strike released a single demo in 1985 then later re-released it with a couple new songs in 1991 and that early death metal mashup is clearly on display here. What the fuck did you expect from an album called Fuckin’ Death? Now remember, this is the early days of death metal, or pre-death, or “proto” death metal or what ever it’s called and sounds much different than what it’s associated with now. Much more thrashy, much more of a hardcore element, with high pitched growling vocals. And sheer intensity. Just fucking balls to the wall. That’s Death Strike. There’s no frills with this band, it’s just early death metal craziness.

I wish I could say more about this but it’s just so precise and direct fucking awesome in it’s economy of music I think dissecting it any more would do it no justice. Just put it on and let it take you back to when death metal was barely a thing.
