More 80’s American power metal!
One of the rare opportunities I relish is when I get the opportunity to talk about bands from my neck of the woods, that neck being Colorado. Colorado’s metal history is a well kept secret it seems and being a state that wasn’t highly regarded for it’s metal out put (that has changed now) I wonder what it must have been like to be these bands in Colorado in the 80s. Particularly Titan Force who claimed Colorado Springs as their home, the weird, christian fundamentalist capital of the country.
You may already be kind of familiar with Titan Force as Harry “The Tyrant” Conklin, notably of the fucking killer bands Jag Panzer and Satan’s Host, performs his epic fucking vocals on this release. It’s hard to not focus on his singing because he has the fucking chops if ever anybody of 80’s American power metal did, but what really struck me about this band was their more progressive leanings. It’s not as straight-forward, fist pumping as Jag Panzer, or as satanic-ly evil and dirty as Satan’s Host is, but yet it’s still undeniably power metal. Just more so on the early Queensryche, early Fates Warning side of things.
The album is fucking sheer power and is stunning all the way through. I’m not sure why Titan Force didn’t go on to be in league with Harry’s other bands or even other 80’s power metal that it’s close to (Crimson Glory, Vicious Rumors…) but thankfully he graced us with another incredible performance.
