Today Wodensthrone announced the band was splitting up so I thought I would take the time to share their incredible album, Curse.
For those of you not familiar with the band, Wodesnthrone play atmospheric black metal similar to bands like Wolves in the Throne Room, or Winterfylleth, with a high focus on nature and pagan history. Just think of Wolves as a springboard because Wodensthrone is a different beast but they share the same ecosphere, if you will. Wodesnthrones mixes beautiful atmospheric passages, keyboards and blistering, sometimes death metal like riffs to form music that is simply breathtaking. Their albums are long and winding and the sheer scope of them is breath taking. I say “albums” because they actually have two albums, the first being 2009′s Loss which is also equally as amazing.
I guess now that I’ve written this, it’s not so much a review of Curse but more of a love letter to a killer band. Curse is my favorite from the band but do yourself a favor and check out both their albums. I’m sad they’ve ended their path but I’m sure some exciting things will come of it.
