I often find myself getting lost down the Bandcamp rabbit whole and on this particular trip I landed on Véhémence, a French “medieval” black metal band. Now the medieval tag interests me and reminds me of the amazing Obsequiae. While Obsequiae uses medieval music, composed and influenced, to craft his unique black metal, Véhémence more goes for a sonic assault that characterizes the violence inherent with the time frame. It sounds like an army marching horses onto some field, or everybody suiting up in armor. There are some classical interludes and the whole production is highly melodic and classical in nature, focussing on the shredding riffs and the interesting vocal approach which is almost a black metal screech but more subdued.

Overall, this is a pretty fucking awesome album. It’s the first from the band and I’ll be keeping an eye and ear out for more from them.
