Well, here it is folks. My last weekly update for the year. I hope these posts have helped you find some new metal music this year and maybe started you on your way to becoming a full on metal fan. A boy can dream can’t he? The year was packed with killer releases and if you missed my personal favorites of the year, you can check out my list over here. I’m looking forward to next year and seeing what the metal world has in store for 2016. Here’s to the coming storm!

NEW STUFF: (Links in titles)

Night Viper – Night Viper
Some solid, classic styled heavy metal with a killer vocalist but I feel like Christian Mistress already owned this kind of music this year.

Batushka – Litourgiya
Awesome black metaled up doom from a group of purposefully elusive and mysterious musicians.

Yellow Eyes – Sick With Bloom
I’ve loved Yellow Eyes previous releases and they’re slowly becoming one of America’s more interesting black metal band. They have a uniquely American, raw, slightly technical take on black metal that is captivating. This one is just as good as their other releases.

Triumvir Foul – Triumvir Foul
Crushing, filthy fucking black metal from some of the members of Ash Borer. Top notch stuff here.

Gretchen Peters – Blackbirds
I’m not well versed in Peters back catalog but I was fairly taken with this new album of hers. The album is full of morose tales about the darker side of life and death but with such a beautiful and plain, stripped down poetic way. Incredible songwriter with an incredible album.

Marriages – Salome
Haunting and captivating post rock with a slight metallic twinge. Not usually my cup of tea but vocalist Emma Ruth Rundle’s voice and guitar tone is highly infectious. It’s a swelling sort of swirling album that fucking kills.

Havukruunu – Havulinnaan
I found this Finnish band while perusing some of the year end lists. They play some dynamic. pagan fueled black metal with a bit of traditional heavy metal in the mix. Solid, catchy album.

Humanity Defiled – The Demise of the Sane
This one man, Belgian, death metal act hits the spot. Straight forward, classic tinged death metal that is satisfying in all the right ways. Not a classic but good at what it does.

Vampire – Cimmerian Shade
Horror ladened, 80’s influenced, death/black metal. Perfect amount of this kind of music in a 16 minute EP.
