I recently ordered the new Revenge CD (which is fucking killer) from Season of Mist and like before when I’ve ordered CDs from that label, they through in a unrelated CD for free. This time it was Rage Nucléaire, a band I wasn’t familiar with but the sticker on the case said Lord Worm was on vocals. In case you don’t know, Lord Worm provided vocals for the old line up of Cryptopsy, particularly on their classic death metal album None So Vile, so I was intrigued. Come to find out the band also has the drummer of Marduk and the guitarist from Frozen Shadows, albeit in a role of keyboardist and bass. The sticker also boasted it is for fans of Marduk.

I didn’t exactly find it to be all that much similar to Marduk. It is unrelentingly hateful and angry, something Marduk is as well, but this has more of an industrial style approach to the black metal. Kind of like Thorns, but not as well done. It’s more atmospheric and with heavy use of keyboards, more in line with their keyboardist, which makes sense to me as he is from Frozen Shadows. Lord Worm’s vocals are awesome as you would imagine, but I have to say I prefer his vocals in Cryptopsy and in a death metal environment as opposed to this icy, black metal world.

Overall, this album is ok. Nothing great here, nothing terrible. Just a solid okay album with some interesting atmospherics, vocals and a red hot hatred.
