Fucking hell, September took it out of me, metal wise. The month was unrelenting with new metal releases and a good majority of them were absolutely killer. This last week of the month is no different as September gives way to October, the perfect time of year. A ton of stuff came out this week so let’s fucking do this.

NEW STUFF: (Links in titles)

Ares Kingdom – The Unburiable Dead
When I was first really getting into metal somehow I landed on Ares Kingdom and was immediately hooked on them. I blasted the shit out of their first two albums but as my range expanded I sort of let them go. There seemed to be a lot of hype surrounding this new one of theirs so I thought I would give it a shot. It’s fucking awesome fun. Blasting death/thrash with riffs from hell.

Borgne – Règne Des Morts
I remember the last album being pretty good. This is industrial infused black metal, though the industrial aspects are rather subdued on this one. It’s fairly decent if not rather long.

Temple of Baal – Mysterium
Death heavy black metal from France. My first encounter with this band and it was an awesome one. Crushing riffs, smashing black metal. Good stuff through and through.

Funerary Bell – Graveyard Seance EP
Some more dirty, repugnant, nasty black metal from some of the guys from the awesome band Verge (and Charnel Winds). This one is fucking killer.

Magister Templi – Into Duat
Kick ass epic metal with a bit of a doom leaning. Not following the typical Candlemass worship, this epic metal is more rooted in straight forward 70’s and 80’s heavy metal. A bit of speed metal in there, some fantasy elements. Reminds me of current band Khemmis but faster, dirtier and nerdier. Awesome.

Creeping – Revenant
Nasty, filthy and dismal blackened doom. Yes, those are good things and the band excels at all of them. I imagine it’s hard to be this dreary when you’re from New Zealand but I’m glad they are.

Satan – Atom by Atom
These NWOBHM stalwarts came storming back to life in 2013 after over 20 years of dormancy and continue that same force with this new one. Classic heavy metal style with some crazy adventurous guitar playing that is catchy as fuck.

Denner Shermann – Satan’s Tomb
Hank Shermann and Michael Denner, better known as the main guitarists and musical composers of the classic Mercyful Fate lineup have come together to release this Fate-like demo. It’s hard not to make comparisons but for what it is, killer guitar work, a serviceable, theatrical singer, it’s pretty damn fun.

Ævangelist – Enthrall to the Void of Bliss
I always anticipate a release from this band. I know that it will be a dark and dismal, crushing, etherial experience and this new one is no exception. This is some cold, nebulous blackened death metal. Definitely one for the headphones.

Eïs – Bannstein
I was big fan of this bands previous release. It was one I tried on a whim and was instantly taken with. These Germans play a kind of dissonant yet epic style of black metal with some grand, sweeping atmospherics in the works. This one is a killer follow up to their previous.
