The thing that surprised me about this album was how modern it sounded. There are bands struggling with this sort of guttural, death/doom sound today. There seems to be an endless amount of them too. Leave it to the Australians to be on top of this 22 years ago. Anyway, this album is bleak. Both intense death, almost grindcore passages butt up right against some the slowest, downtrodden doom you’ve ever heard. I struggle to call them riffs because they move to slow to be riffing anything. Long, sustained, sorrowful notes then without warning right back to the pummeling. Maybe it’s because I’ve never paid to much attention to doom, but I’m surprised this album doesn’t get mentioned more often.
