If you’re looking to have your heart kicked right out of your chest and stopped on, this is the album for you. It’s a gut punch right in the feels. Singer/guitarist Patrick Walker, who’s currently in the equally as miserable and downtrodden doom band 40 Watts of Sun (more on them later) clearly went through some shit before or during the recording of this album. It’s dismal. It’s heartbroken. But at the same time it’s colossal in sound and scope. The vocals are a bit theatrical but I think that lends to the overall bleakness of the album. Like I’ve said before, some of us find beauty in the dark and while this album is about as dark as they come, there is a beauty to it. Not in any conventional means but it’s there.
