Again, the genre lines are blurred by a band. They are labeled as a technical doom band, but to my ears this sounds more death metal than anything. Technical is spot on. Confessor is all over the place timing wise, structure wise, and rhythmically. The thing about this band is… it kind of bores me. I appreciate technical prowess of musicians but if you can’t use that to make something interesting instead of just wanking off to show how skilled you are, then I’m not interested. This is why I tend to avoid most tech death metal bands. The vocals on this album really seem like an odd pairing too. It’s like somewhere between Geddy Lee of Rush and Chuck from Death. It sounds interesting but it ends up just being grating. I hate to post something negative about a band and this may be up somebodies alley, it just isn’t mine.
