You may recall I posted about doom band Thorr’s Hammer a couple posts ago? Well Burning Witch is where most of those members went before moving on to form Sunn O))). Not that that really means anything for Burning Witch. There is a slow drive sound to this album but not nearly as repetitive and dissident as Sunn O))). What really struck me about Burning Witch was how they are sort of amalgam of all doom genres. They get traditional, stoner/sludge, and even a bit of drone and funeral in there. For the most part, the album is a slow, plodding journey though some sickeningly harrowing doom and evil, rasped through and through by lead singer. It’s a long album at just over one hour but for the most part remains captivating. I can’t help but get a Eyehategod vibe from it though.
